Where to Stay in Palma de Mallorca (2026)
A LOCAL’S GUIDE
Where to Stay in Palma de Mallorca (2026)
A Local’s Guide to the Hotels I Recommend to My Own Friends
If you’ve started searching for hotels in Palma, you’ve probably noticed the problem.
There are hundreds of options.
Every hotel promises the perfect location. Every rooftop claims to have the best view. Every breakfast is supposedly unforgettable.
After living in Mallorca, hosting visiting family, and spending nights in many of these hotels ourselves, I’ve realized something.
Choosing the right hotel isn’t really about choosing the nicest hotel.
It’s about choosing the right neighborhood.
Do you want to wake up overlooking one of the Mediterranean’s great marinas?
Step outside into medieval streets beneath cathedral bells?
Spend every afternoon beside a resort pool?
Walk barefoot to the beach?
Or simply have enough room for the kids without spending a fortune?
This guide isn’t a list of every hotel in Palma.
These are the places I’d actually recommend to the people I care about.

Where to Stay in Palma: Start with the Neighborhood
People spend a lot of time comparing hotels.
I think they’re asking the wrong question.
In Palma, your neighborhood will shape your trip far more than whether your hotel has a rooftop bar or an extra star.
The good news is that nothing is very far apart. You can walk between many of these neighborhoods, and a taxi rarely takes more than fifteen minutes.
The better question is this:
What kind of week are you hoping to have?
Here’s how I’d think about it.
Old Town (Casco Antiguo)
Best for: First time visitors, shopping, restaurants, and exploring on foot.
If this is your first time in Palma, start here.
You’ll spend most of your day walking anyway, and Old Town puts nearly everything within easy reach. The Cathedral, Passeig del Born, small plazas, museums, cafés, and many of the city’s best restaurants are all within a few minutes of one another.
It’s also the part of Palma that changes the most throughout the day. Early mornings are quiet. Lunch spills into the streets. Evenings feel lively without becoming overwhelming.
If you’re only coming once, this is where I’d stay.
Hotels: Hotel Can Cirera, Hotel Can Alomar, Nivia Born Boutique Hotel, Hotel Cappuccino Palma, Sant Francesc Hotel Singular.
Santa Catalina
Best for: Restaurants, wine bars, couples, and evenings out.
Santa Catalina is where we end up more than anywhere else.
Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s easy.
You can meet friends for dinner, linger over a glass of wine, and walk home without thinking about transportation.
It’s lively, but it still feels like a neighborhood where people live rather than somewhere built entirely for visitors. That’s a balance Palma gets right.
If food is going to be a big part of your trip, I’d stay within walking distance of Santa Catalina.
Nearby hotels worth considering: Hotel Hostal Cuba, AC Hotel Ciutat de Palma.
Son Armadams
Best for: A quieter base near everything.
Think of Son Armadams as Santa Catalina’s quieter neighbor.
You’re close enough to walk to the restaurants, cafés, and waterfront, but once you’re back in the neighborhood, the pace changes. It feels more residential, with fewer visitors and more people simply going about their day.
If I wanted easy access to the city without staying in the middle of it, this is where I’d look.
Featured hotel: Terreno Suites.
Also worth a look: Isla Mallorca & Spa.
Local favorite: If you have a morning to spare, stop by Cafeteria Capritxo, one of our favorite neighborhood bakeries. I wrote more about why we keep coming back in Notebook No. 1: A Morning at Cafeteria Capritxo.
Paseo Marítimo
Best for: First time visitors and easy access to the city.
The marina isn’t Palma.
It’s simply one edge of it.
Staying here gives you room to breathe. You’re close to Santa Catalina, close to Bellver Castle, close to the Old Town, and connected by one of the easiest walks in the city.
Some people love being in the middle of everything.
Others prefer being five or ten minutes away.
I’m usually in the second group.
Hotels: Hotel Palma Bellver, Hotel Victoria Gran Meliá.
Gomila
Best for: Travelers who like discovering neighborhoods before everyone else does.
Gomila is changing.
New restaurants are opening.
Old buildings are being restored.
Small galleries and cafés continue to replace what used to be a very different neighborhood.
It’s not polished.
That’s part of why I like it.
There’s a sense that the neighborhood is becoming something rather than trying to be something.
Hotels: Hotel Victoria Gran Meliá.
El Terreno
Best for: Families, longer stays, and a quieter side of Palma.
El Terreno feels residential because it is.
You’ll notice neighborhood cafés before cocktail bars. Grocery stores before souvenir shops. Parents walking their kids to school instead of tour groups following umbrellas.
That’s exactly what I like about it.
You’re still only a few minutes from Santa Catalina, the Paseo Marítimo, and the center of Palma, but when you come back at the end of the day, the pace changes.
If you’re traveling with kids, staying for more than a long weekend, or simply prefer neighborhoods where people actually live, El Terreno is well worth considering.
Featured hotel: Terreno Suites.
Porto Pi
Best for: Pools, resorts, and staying put.
If you’re the kind of traveler who actually enjoys spending time at the hotel, Porto Pi makes a lot of sense.
This is where you’ll find larger properties with bigger pools, spas, and more space than you’ll usually get in the historic center.
You give up some walkability.
You gain room to spread out.
For plenty of people, that’s an easy trade.
Hotels: GPRO Valparaiso Palace & Spa, Hotel Hesperia Mallorca.
Cala Major
Best for: Beach days without leaving Palma behind.
Cala Major sits in a nice middle ground.
You’re not in the city.
You’re not out in a resort town either.
You have a beach, plenty of restaurants, and Palma is only a short taxi ride away.
It’s where we often end up when we want a slower afternoon without driving across the island.
Hotels: Hotel Nixe Palace.
Puerto Portals
Best for: Marinas, restaurants, and winter visits.
Puerto Portals is technically outside Palma, but I’d still include it in almost any itinerary.
It’s one of the easiest places to spend an afternoon.
Walk the marina.
Have lunch.
Browse a few shops.
People watch for a while.
During December, it becomes one of the best places on the island thanks to its Christmas market.
It’s worth the short drive.
Hotels: The Donna Portals.
Playa de Palma, Can Pastilla & Ciudad Jardín
Best for: Beach holidays and active travelers.
This stretch of coastline surprises people.
It’s easy to assume Playa de Palma is one long party strip.
It isn’t.
Stay around Can Pastilla or Ciudad Jardín and you’ll find wide beaches, long promenades, good cafés, and plenty of locals out walking, running, or cycling.
Just keep heading east toward El Arenal and the atmosphere changes quickly.
Families should stay west.
The party crowd heads east.
It’s as simple as that.
Hotels: Iberostar Waves Bahía de Palma.

Best Hotel for Your First Visit to Palma
Hotel Palma Bellver Affiliated by Meliá
Perfect for travelers who want marina views, easy access to the city, and one of the best value locations in Palma.
Whenever friends tell me they’re visiting Mallorca for the first time, this is usually where I send them.
The location is hard to beat.
You’re directly on the Paseo Marítimo with uninterrupted marina views, Santa Catalina is an easy walk away, taxis are everywhere, and you’ll spend every evening watching hundreds of yachts come and go.
We’ve stayed here ourselves with our daughter when she was two years old. While it isn’t specifically designed for families, our suite had a generous living area that made bedtime surprisingly manageable. That little bit of separation between parents and kids makes a bigger difference than you’d think.
Breakfast is consistently solid, the outdoor pool is perfect for cooling off after exploring the city, and dozens of excellent restaurants are within walking distance.
If your idea of a Mediterranean vacation involves coffee on a balcony overlooking sailboats before wandering into Palma for dinner, this hotel delivers.

Best Value Hotel
Hotel Hesperia Mallorca
Perfect for families, longer stays, and travelers who don’t mind living a little more like a local.
When we first moved to Mallorca, this became our home for a little while.
That probably gives me a different perspective than most reviewers.
Yes, it’s dated.
Yes, the gym is small.
Yes, the pool isn’t going to end up on Instagram.
But it’s clean, quiet, safe, surprisingly spacious, and one of the better values you’ll find anywhere around Palma.
Our daughter even had her own sleeping area, giving us just enough privacy during one of the most stressful moves of our lives.
The surrounding neighborhood feels like an actual neighborhood rather than a tourist district.
The tradeoff is location.
You’re probably not walking into Palma every day.
Instead, hop on the Number 4 or Number 20 bus. Both run frequently and take you into the city in about fifteen minutes.
If you’re comfortable using public transportation and would rather spend your money exploring Mallorca than paying for a luxury address, it’s an excellent choice.
Best Pool in Palma
GPRO Valparaiso Palace & Spa
Perfect for travelers who judge a vacation by the quality of the pool.
If pools matter to you…
Stop looking.
This is my favorite hotel pool in Palma.
Actually, two pools.
One of them is enormous.
Palm trees.
Water features.
An island in the middle.
Enough room that it rarely feels crowded.
We’ve stayed here multiple times and still come back for breakfast because the international buffet is genuinely one of the best in Palma.
The hotel feels polished without becoming overly formal, and the facilities are outstanding.
The only compromise is the location.
You’re staying in Porto Pi rather than the historic center.
This isn’t the place for wandering cobbled streets every evening.
It’s the place to spend an afternoon beside the pool with a book before taking a taxi into town for dinner.

Best Beach Escape Near Palma
Hotel Nixe Palace
Perfect for travelers who want the Mediterranean outside their window instead of city streets.
When locals want to slow down, many of us head toward Cala Major.
It’s one of my favorite corners of Mallorca.
The restaurants are excellent.
The beach is beautiful.
Everything is walkable.
The pace is slower.
Instead of bachelor parties and loud beach clubs, you’ll find people lingering over lunch, swimming in the sea, and enjoying long evenings by the water.
Nixe Palace fits naturally into that atmosphere.
Elegant without feeling pretentious.
You can spend the morning at the beach, wander to lunch, enjoy dinner overlooking the bay, and never once need a taxi.

Quiet Luxury on the Marina
Hotel Victoria Gran Meliá
Perfect for couples celebrating something special.
Victoria Gran Meliá feels timeless.
Classic architecture.
Large terraces.
Beautiful marina views.
A quiet confidence that never feels flashy.
It’s one of my favorite winter hotels thanks to its indoor spa, heated pool, and peaceful relaxation spaces surrounded by mature trees.
During summer, the outdoor pool and restaurant become the heart of the property.
Located in Gomila, you’re close enough to walk into Santa Catalina while still enjoying a quieter atmosphere at night.
This is where I notice lots of anniversaries, babymoons, and weekend escapes.
It feels like a place people choose when they want to slow down together.

Best Hotel for Families
Terreno Suites
Perfect for families who need more than just a hotel room.
This may be the most underrated property on this list.
Terreno Suites isn’t trying to impress you with marble lobbies or rooftop cocktail bars.
Instead, it solves the problem every traveling family eventually runs into.
Space.
Separate bedrooms.
A quiet neighborhood.
Nearby grocery stores.
Local cafés.
Parks.
Everything you actually need.
The surrounding area feels residential, which means peaceful evenings and relaxed mornings.
It’s the kind of place where you can unpack instead of living out of a suitcase.
Photo courtesy of Hotel Can Cirera
Best Historic Boutique Hotel
Hotel Can Cirera
Perfect for travelers who want to wake up inside the history of Palma.
Some hotels are beautiful.
Some hotels have a great location.
And then there are hotels like Can Cirera, where the building itself is part of the destination.
The Gothic palace that houses Hotel Can Cirera dates back to the 15th century. Originally built for the distinguished Malferit family, the home later passed through generations of Mallorcan nobility before becoming part of the Cirera family’s legacy in the nineteenth century. Today, it has been thoughtfully restored into one of Palma’s most intimate boutique hotels while preserving the architectural character that makes it so remarkable.
You feel that history almost immediately.
Stone staircases worn smooth by centuries of footsteps.
Quiet courtyards filled with natural light.
Ancient wooden beams.
Windows that open onto streets that have barely changed in hundreds of years.
And then there’s the location.
Walk outside and you’re standing beneath Palma Cathedral.
Around the corner are some of the city’s best restaurants.
During December, Christmas markets fill the surrounding plazas. In January, the Three Kings Parade passes through the historic center. Throughout the rest of the year, concerts, festivals, and the rhythm of Old Palma unfold just outside your door.
This isn’t the hotel to book for a sprawling pool or a resort atmosphere.
It’s the hotel you book because you want to experience Palma itself.
Best Hotels for Shopping
Hotel Can Alomar
Perfect for travelers who secretly packed an extra suitcase.
If shopping is one of the reasons you’re visiting Palma, this is where I’d stay.
Located directly on Passeig del Born, Hotel Can Alomar places you in the heart of Palma’s most elegant shopping district.
Luxury boutiques.
Independent galleries.
El Corte Inglés.
Zara.
Excellent restaurants.
Beautiful cafés.
Everything is within a short walk.
The hotel itself feels refined without being intimidating.
Historic architecture blends effortlessly with understated luxury, creating a place that feels every bit as elegant as the neighborhood surrounding it.
Nivia Born Boutique Hotel
Perfect for travelers who love boutique hotels with contemporary design.
Just steps from Can Alomar sits another favorite.
Nivia Born Boutique Hotel offers much of the same unbeatable location with a slightly more contemporary feel and a friendlier price point.
The service is outstanding.
The rooms feel fresh and modern.
And you’re still within walking distance of virtually everything that makes Palma special.
It’s a wonderful choice for travelers who value location above all else but prefer boutique hotels over grand luxury properties.
Best Christmas Getaway
The Donna Portals
Perfect for travelers visiting Mallorca during the holidays.
Technically, this isn’t Palma.
I’m including it anyway.
Every winter, Puerto Portals hosts what I believe is the most magical Christmas market on Mallorca.
Thousands of lights reflect across the marina.
Families wander with hot chocolate in hand.
Luxury yachts become part of the holiday backdrop.
It somehow manages to feel festive without becoming overwhelming.
The Donna Portals complements that atmosphere beautifully.
Modern.
Relaxed.
Sophisticated.
From here, you can stroll to the Christmas market, browse luxury boutiques, enjoy waterfront restaurants, and experience a side of Mallorca that many summer visitors never see.
Outside the holiday season, Puerto Portals remains one of the island’s most elegant marinas, making this a wonderful choice year round.
Best Beach Holiday Outside Palma
Iberostar Waves Bahía de Palma
Perfect for travelers who want to spend every day by the sea.
If your dream holiday revolves around the beach rather than sightseeing, look east of Palma toward Playa de Palma.
Iberostar Waves Bahía de Palma sits close enough to the city for easy day trips while giving you immediate access to one of Mallorca’s longest stretches of sand.
Head west and you’ll discover a side of Mallorca many visitors miss.
Morning runners.
Cyclists.
Wing foilers.
Kitesurfers.
Locals lingering over coffee along the waterfront.
A promenade that stretches for miles beside the Mediterranean.
One important note.
Continue east toward El Arenal and the atmosphere changes dramatically into one of Mallorca’s biggest party destinations. Families will probably want to avoid that area.
Stay closer to Can Pastilla and Ciudad Jardín, however, and you’ll experience a relaxed coastal lifestyle that reminds me a little of Southern California.
Best Rooftops in Palma
Sometimes the hotel itself becomes part of the destination.
These are the places where you’ll linger over breakfast long after your coffee is gone, find yourself ordering “just one more” cocktail as the sun sets, and realize you’ve spent half the day without ever feeling the need to leave the property.
If rooftop views are high on your wish list, these are my two favorites.
Hotel Cappuccino Palma
Perfect for travelers who want to be in the middle of everything, with one of Palma’s liveliest rooftops just upstairs.
If Palma had a living room, it might be Hotel Cappuccino.
Located in the heart of Old Town, you’re surrounded by boutiques, cafés, galleries, and some of the city’s best restaurants. Step outside and within minutes you can be shopping along Passeig del Born, wandering the narrow streets around Plaza Mayor, or sitting beneath the Cathedral with a coffee in hand.
The location alone would make this hotel easy to recommend.
But it’s the rooftop that keeps people talking.
It has one of the most vibrant rooftop scenes in the city. Whether you’re stopping in for a late afternoon drink or watching the rooftops of Palma glow as the sun disappears behind the Tramuntana Mountains, it feels like one of those places that perfectly captures the energy of the city.
The hotel itself strikes a balance between classic Mallorcan character and contemporary luxury. Service is polished without ever feeling formal, and there’s an unmistakable sense that every detail has been carefully considered.
Es Princep
Perfect for travelers who want luxury, sea views, and one of the best rooftop terraces in Mallorca.
Es Princep somehow manages to give you the best of both worlds.
You’re close enough to wander the historic streets of Old Town, yet only a few steps from the sea. That combination is surprisingly rare in Palma.
The rooftop terrace is one of my favorites anywhere on the island.
Looking out across the Bay of Palma with the Cathedral rising behind the city is one of those views that never gets old. Whether you’re here for breakfast, sunset, or an evening drink, it’s the kind of place where time slows down.
Inside, the hotel feels refined and contemporary. Rooms are beautifully designed, the spa is exceptional, and the level of service consistently matches the setting. Everything feels effortless.
The location is another huge advantage. You’re close enough to explore Palma entirely on foot, but just far enough from the busiest streets that returning to the hotel always feels peaceful.
If You’re Only Going to Do It Once…
Sant Francesc Hotel Singular
Perfect for travelers who aren’t looking for the best value. They’re looking for the best.
Every city has one hotel that quietly becomes the benchmark against which every other luxury property is measured.
In Palma, for me, that’s Sant Francesc Hotel Singular.
Occupying a beautifully restored nineteenth century manor house overlooking the elegant Plaça de Sant Francesc, it somehow manages to feel grand without ever becoming intimidating. Historic stone walls, soaring ceilings, contemporary art, tranquil courtyards, and impeccable service all come together to create something that feels uniquely Mallorcan.
The location is exceptional.
You’re tucked into one of the quietest corners of Old Town, yet within minutes you can walk to the Cathedral, Passeig del Born, the city’s best restaurants, galleries, and hidden cafés. It feels wonderfully connected without ever feeling busy.
Everything about the experience feels intentional.
The rooms are beautifully understated.
The rooftop terrace is elegant without trying too hard.
The courtyard is one of those places where breakfast somehow turns into a two hour affair because no one is in a hurry to leave.
And then there’s the service.
It’s warm, intuitive, and genuinely personal. The kind of hospitality that remembers your name, anticipates what you need before you ask, and somehow makes the entire stay feel effortless.
There are plenty of luxury hotels in Palma.
Very few feel this complete.
Not because it’s the most expensive.
Not because it’s the trendiest.
Because when I picture the perfect luxury hotel in Palma, this is the one that comes to mind first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I stay in Old Town or Santa Catalina?
If it’s your first visit, I’d choose Old Town.
You’ll spend less time figuring out where everything is and more time enjoying it.
Once you’ve been to Palma once, Santa Catalina becomes a much more interesting place to base yourself.
Do I need a rental car?
Not if you’re staying in Palma.
In fact, I’d argue a rental car is more hassle than help while you’re in the city. Between walking, taxis, and Palma’s excellent bus network, you’ll probably spend more time looking for parking than driving.
Where a rental car becomes worthwhile is when you’re ready to leave the city.
The mountain villages.
Hidden coves.
The wineries.
The beaches on the east coast.
That’s when Mallorca really begins to open up.
When we need a car, we book through DiscoverCars. We’ve found their prices to be consistently competitive, the booking process is straightforward, and they compare a wide range of rental companies in one place, which saves a lot of time. Everything can be booked online before you arrive, and we’ve had good experiences with both the vehicles and the customer service.
If you’re planning to spend a few days exploring beyond Palma, I’d book your rental in advance. You’ll usually have more choice, and it’s one less thing to think about once you’re here.
Which hotel would you book?
The honest answer?
It depends.
First trip? Hotel Palma Bellver.
History? Hotel Can Cirera.
Luxury? Sant Francesc Hotel Singular.
Beach? Hotel Nixe Palace.
Kids? Terreno Suites.
Best pool? GPRO Valparaiso.
Final Thoughts
The best hotel in Palma doesn’t exist.
The best hotel for your trip does.
Hopefully this guide helps you choose not just a place to sleep, but the part of Mallorca that fits the kind of memories you want to make.
Every part of Palma has its own character. Some mornings begin beneath centuries old stone facades, others beside the Med with coffee in hand. The best hotel isn’t the most expensive one. It’s the one that feels like the right starting point for the kind of memories you want to make.
And if you’re still deciding where to begin, send me to Hotel Palma Bellver for a first visit, Can Cirera for history, Nixe Palace for the beach, or Terreno Suites with young kids.
I’d happily stay at any of them again.
