Between Two Seas (betweentwoseas.co) is written and operated by Captain G at Sea, LLC. This policy explains, in plain language, what information this site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

Who this covers

This applies to anyone visiting betweentwoseas.co. Whether you’re a subscriber, a regular reader, or just passing through, this is what happens with your information.

What we collect

Email address, if you subscribe

If you enter your email to receive new essays, that’s the only piece of information we ask for. It’s collected and stored by Hostinger Reach, the service this site uses to send new posts. We use it for exactly one purpose: sending you new writing from Between Two Seas. We don’t sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone outside of Hostinger. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by writing to hello@betweentwoseas.co.

Basic analytics

This site uses Google Analytics, through Google’s Site Kit, to understand, in general terms, how many people visit, which essays are read, and how people find the site. Google Analytics places a cookie in your browser and collects information like approximate location, device type, and browsing behavior on this site. We use this only to understand what’s resonating with readers. It isn’t used to identify you personally, and we don’t combine it with anything else we hold.

We also use Google Search Console and PageSpeed Insights, which help us understand search performance and page speed. Neither collects information about individual visitors.

Fonts

This site’s typefaces load from Google Fonts. Loading a font from Google’s servers means your browser sends Google a request, which can include your IP address. We use Google Fonts because they’re part of what gives Between Two Seas its voice on the page, but we want to be upfront that this does mean a small amount of data reaches Google before you’ve read a word.

What we don’t collect

We don’t run comments on this site, so there’s no comment data to store. Our contact page is a simple mailto link, meaning a message you send goes straight to our inbox through your own email provider. It never touches our server or any third-party form tool.

Affiliate links

Some content on this site, particularly in the Guides section, includes or will include links to hotels, products, or services we’ve used and recommend. Some of those links may earn us a small commission if you book or buy through them, at no extra cost to you. We use a service called Stay22 to power hotel and map recommendations, which may set its own cookies once you interact with those specific tools. Full detail is in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Your rights

If you’re in the EU/EEA or UK, GDPR gives you the right to know what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to limit how it’s used, or receive a copy of it in a portable format. If you’d like any of this, email hello@betweentwoseas.co and we’ll take care of it, generally within a month.

If you’re visiting from the U.S., we don’t sell personal information, and this site doesn’t meet the size thresholds that trigger most U.S. state privacy laws like the CCPA. We’re glad to honor the same requests regardless of where you’re writing from.

Where your data lives

This site is hosted through Hostinger. Email addresses, if you subscribe, are processed by Hostinger Reach. Analytics data is processed by Google. Both companies may process data outside of Spain or the EU, under their own data protection safeguards.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date below.
